Tampa Bay Shoots began as a desperate need in the Tampa Bay market, and experienced professionals, like us, wanted something to be available which would show professional respect to models, photographers, and other industry professionals, events run by professionals, and were people just starting out could learn and work toward being established in the industry as future professionals.
So, while we worked out careers as professional photographers and modeling experts, nothing changed. We took notice. We were tired of nothing being available which we wanted and needed, and so were a lot of other people. Something had to change.
We were in position to do something about it.
During our research and development in photography events and workshops, specifically modeling photography events in the Tampa Bay area over the past 15 years, we have never been impressed with the professionalism or the target markets of such events. Most have been tacky, amateurish freebie wannabe photography and modeling clubs or groups, and they were of no benefit to anyone whom became involved. In most cases, they ended careers before they began, with the blind leading the blind, and with mistake being practiced. In actuality, studies of the most unprofessional and notorious amateurs in the market led back to some of these events, which they used to gain experience and get “started” in their “careers”. There were even modeling photography events held in clothing optional resorts, which, in our opinion, were as tacky and unprofessional as you could get, and made the Tampa Bay area look like extremely amateurish; the low point of it all and the joke of the modeling and photography scene in Tampa Bay. What made it even worse, in our opinion, is that exploitation was being passed off as “art”, and all of this was indicative of just how weak the modeling and photography markets were in the Tampa Bay area. Indeed, the main problem seemed to be that there were no standards in modeling photography events not just locally, but in Florida itself!
One thing that many of these events had in common were inappropriate types of modeling and photography, such as glamour, and even the more professionally run ones seemed to focus on high-risk, glamour photography and modeling. That is not to say that this type of photography or modeling is wrong, but new models and photographers really have no business attempting it without knowing the risks and without the appropriate professional instruction, and none of those events had that instruction. They were critically and professionally flawed.
We are not going to point out specifically who these people are or go into extensive reviews of what was wrong with their events and what they did, however, at least not on this site.
We have heard a lot of complaints from others, too. Well, we listened, and we decided to do something about it.
With a demonstrated demand for modeling photography events and a need to establish a new professional standard, we did years of research and development, and obtained a lot of experience producing and running photography events. We wanted more, too, as there was nothing out there good enough for us, and set out to create the types of events and workshops that we both wanted and needed. The result are professionally relevant events and workshops for photographers, models, and industry professionals which actually benefit everyone involved, and are much safer for careers.
What we have developed for Tampa Bay Shoots is what we needed, too, for our events, and we are using the same support infrastructure and resources for our own event projects which we are offering to the market. We use Tampa Bay Shoots, too, and that there says a lot.
As a side benefit, too, we used what we developed with events and workshops to create jobs, jobs which pay, for industry professionals, helping to fight back against job scams in the industry and forcing other event organizers to pay the help! Tampa Bay Shoots will become one of the leading suppliers of consistent, quality modeling jobs for models in the Tampa Bay area, as well as in Florida, and these jobs will be better than the typical promotional modeling jobs that models have had to settle for in the past.
